3.1 A plan addressing a child's early literacy and numeracy skills and interests:
Lesson
Plan:
Targeted
Audience:
·
A young boy aged 3 years old
·
Enjoys and learns best through
hand on activities
·
He loves the outdoors
·
Enjoys using equipment’s and
motorized equipment.
·
Engages with learning
experiences through outdoor activities
Plan/objective:
Incorporating numeracy and literacy
learning experiences through the use of the natural environment and to provide
the young child with hands on interesting learning environment targeting the
young boys needs and interests. I will be observing the child’s actions and
weather there are any strengths and weaknesses throughout the session, which I may
be able to modify. Through the use of this plan it will allow me to provide the child with literacy and numeracy skills and interest in which best suit his needs.
Activity:
To include early numeracy and literacy
learning the young boy will have a choice as to which tool he wants to use or
weather he wants to use his hands to dig with however he will be digging in the
outdoors to find 10 elements. The 10 elements are of his choice, as he will
then be creating a story, a play and or a picture using the elements he has dug
up. Through this it is allowing him to explore the outdoors and to use him
imagination. As he will need to count how many items he has found it will be
incorporating basic mathematics learning for him. To lead into him creating a
play or picture using his imagination explores the notion of early learning
literacy. I will allow an adequate amount of time, as I want him to finish the
activity to his speed and to not limit the use of his imagination. He will have
access to all resources in the room, which include, paints, glue, paper,
pencils, objects and many more.
Observations:
I will be observing and making suggestion
to the young boy throughout the activity however I am aiming to achieve his
maximal interest and for him to engage in the activity through his imagination
therefore I will limit the amount of limitations and suggestions I will make. However
I will be closely observing throughout, as I will assess weather modifications
need to be made throughout the duration of the activity. I will then make
critical and in-depth analysis of his final product and to question the boy as
to what he has done and why he has chosen to do that. It will also allow me to observe the skills and interest that the child is engaging best through and weather i have provided him with adequate skills to suit his ability level.
Modifications:
Some modifications may need to be made
throughout the duration of the activity, which may include:
·
Change the use of tools he may
use.
·
Provide him with ideas if he is
struggling to use him imagination.
·
Use number blocks to assist
with his counting.
·
Digging may be too complicated
therefore he can collect any elements from the outdoors environment.
·
He may struggle to create a
play or picture with the items he has collected therefore I could provide him
with some items he could use.
· A story could be read to help
him with the topic as it could create suggestions and ideas for him.
The skills needed may be too hard therefore make modifications to suit his ability.
He may not find the activity interesting, therefore i can modify and suggest that the entire process can be performed outdoors.

Summary/strengths and weaknesses:
Through the use of this lesson plan it will
allow me to observe and to provide a numeracy and literacy experience for the
young boy. The strengths of this plan I believe is that it is focusing on a
specific child and the child’s interest therefore I hope that it will provide
an interesting learning environment for him. I have based it around the one
specific child as I feel each child learns best through different strategies
therefore I felt this strategy would create a rich numeracy and literacy early
learning for the boy. However there are some possible limits and restrictions
in regards to the environment available and the resources provided. Throughout
the session I have provided modifications and or suggestions to try maximize the
learning of numeracy and literacy through the use of observations and to
identify when I need to take a place in his learning. To finalise the session i will create a in depth analysis which will prove me with future improvements and weather the child's skills and interests were met throughout this activty.
